Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed Premier Doug Ford to the Mayor’s Annual Business Address & Luncheon on Thursday, hosted by the Markham Board of Trade. The Premier surprised a sold-out crowd of business leaders and investors by joining Mayor Scarpitti on stage as he delivered his keynote address.
Markham, much like Ontario, is a place to grow. In his address, Mayor Scarpitti touched on the diversity, talent and innovation that is driving Markham’s economic prosperity.
“Markham has experienced incredible growth, and is home to a strong and diverse business community, just a couple of the ingredients in what we like to call the Markham Mix,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Markham has mastered the perfect mix for success. Success comes when the right people from different backgrounds connect and create. Markham is not only evolving in step with the digital economy, we are leading it. We have a healthy mix of local and international companies and startups, and we have a reputation for moving at the speed of the private sector, meeting the needs of our businesses.”
Mayor Scarpitti presented Premier Ford with his own shovel, recognizing the Province’s commitment to build a world-class regional rapid transit system that includes the critical Yonge Subway Extension.
Markham is at the centre of Canada’s largest innovation hub and is home to GM Canada’s Canadian Technical Centre, which is expected to employ up to 1,000 engineers, focused on developing software for the next generation of autonomous vehicles.
